November 2009 Report

The month of November in Apalachee Bay is a great month to fish. Reds and Trout will be moving up in the creeks and rivers as the water temp drops. Grouper will continue to move in closer to the near shore rockpiles and Flounder will be moving to deeper waters.  Grouper have been reported being caught just 2 miles offshore out of Shell Point. A lot of "JUST UNDER THE LEGAL SIZE" grouper have been caught and released ; however anglers are reporting catching 25''ers and above as well. Also, large King fish and Spanish Mackeral have been reported caught out of St. Marks.

Jerrys Bait and Tackle is NOW offering CHARTERING.

July - August 2009 Report

Live shrimp seem to be back in full swing again. For those of you that didn't know, every year around the end of June thru middle August, live shrimp are very hard to come by in the Apalachee Bay area. So all of you live shrimp users, SHRIMP are back, so lets go fishin'

Aucilla has been producing large redfish and trout, in about 4 to 5 foot of water. Toss a plastic Gulp Shrimp, slow your retrieve, jerking it every 10 seconds or so.

It looks like the fishery is starting to improve. The water still appears to be dark and muddy looking, but throughout this past week, the fish don't seem to mind it.

Brothers, Erik and Leif Lundquist, fished Live Oak Island and landed a 24'' and a 23'' redfish using shrimp and bull minnows. Leif said he hooked an even bigger red, but he broke off at the boat.

Friends, Gary Z. and Gary D. fished out of St. Marks and limited out on trout, using shrimp and top water plugs. Gary Z. also landed 24'' spanish Mackeral.

Tabitha Mills and Brandon Stubbs fished with Otto Hough, out of St. Marks and managed to troll up some grouper. The trio ended up with 3 gags, all caught by trolling.

Bob Bouchard, Marty Smith, & Jeff Hardison fished Rock Island out of St. Marks and limited out on Redfish. The biggest was 26'', weighing 6 lbs. and a 24 incher, weighing 5 lbs. These fine eatin' fish were caught on live shrimp.

   March 1 - 12, 2008

As most of you all know, the weekend that trout season opened back up was not the best weekend for fishing, so therefore no fishing stories were reported.
This past weekend was great, gorgeous weather, couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Trout and Reds were being caught out of Aucilla around Grey Mare Rock, and Redfish Point. One angler reported catching a 27'' red off a dock in Shell Point.  The East River has been holding some pretty hefty sheepshead. Throw a small shrimp on a small hook and listen to your reel sing.

Eric Keyser and friend Jason fished a rising tide out of Aucilla and landed 2 upper slot Reds, using Topwater plugs.
